Confusion reigns over ECB FX group

FRANKFURT -- Confusion remains over the existence of an FX market committee set up by the European Central Bank (ECB).

Speaking at industry body ACI’s European congress in Luxembourg last month, ECB deputy director of operations, Paul Mercier, suggested the ECB would form such a group. But the bank said a group of 20--25 market participants already exists to "keep in touch with the markets", and it has been in operation for two years. No changes to that set-up are planned, a spokesperson told FX
