Rigorous transaction cost analysis (TCA) is crucial to ensuring algorithmic execution strategies genuinely achieve a better result than more traditional trading methods, a senior treasury official at oil and gas company Royal Dutch Shell has warned.

“The one thing we have learned from the algos we have used is that data is key, and certainly when I’m running multiple different currencies, I need to know how they performed and I need some objective measures,” said Paul Downie, head of liquidity
