This was one of the themes of the final panel discussion of FX Week USA 2006, which focused on how algorithmic trading and advanced electronic flows and strategies affected the FX industry.

The proliferation of algorithmic trading in the equity markets has led to an 'arms race' among trading firms and hedge funds for faster data, so that they can gain a time advantage over their competitors. However, the use of algorithmic trading strategies in the FX markets – while growing – is still limited
