CME e-FX volumes rocket

TECHNOLOGY NEWS

CHICAGO -- Electronic forex futures trading at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange increased fourfold last year, the exchange announced in its annual report, released in late March.

The increase, to average monthly volumes of 400,000, follows the April 2001 expansion of forex futures trading on its electronic platform, Globex, to 23 hours a day. Previously, electronic trading was available only between 2.30pm and 7.05am Chicago time. The exchange launched electronic trading in 1992.
