BIS report highlights trade growth

Combined turnover in exchange-traded currency, interest rate and stock index derivatives increased 24% between January and March this year to reach $533 trillion, after declining 7% in Q4 2006.

Trading volumes for listed FX derivatives grew 26% to reach $6 trillion, with the biggest increases taking place in currencies associated with carry trades. For example, contracts on the New Zealand dollar more than doubled, and derivatives volumes on the Australian dollar rose 85% in March. Contracts
