BIS Report Supports Need For New Derivatives Volume Survey

REGULATIONS

The Bank for International Settlements plans to collect volume information on derivatives from major players regularly as well as surveying the entire market on a tri-annual basis starting this year, according to a recent report from a Group of Ten central bank working group released by the BIS.

The report says the central banks are concerned about a general lack of transparency in the market, which leads to "macroprudential" concerns. "This lack of transparency applies to the activities
