FXmoves increase banks’ international lending, says BIS

BASLE -- Volatility in the FX markets increased global banks’ international credit between the end of June 2001 and the end of Septmeber 2001, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) said last week.

International lending by banks increased by 3% to $11.6 trillion during the period under review, said a BIS report. But the majority of this was actually down to an increase in the US dollar value of claims due to FX movements.
