The results were part of the industry association’s annual survey on margin use in the market, released at the end of April.

Survey respondents reported 59% of the independent amount they delivered is placed with a central counterparty. This rose to 72% for the largest dealers. Only 32% of the independent amount is commingled with variation margin, and a smaller percentage, 6%, is segregated on the books and records of dealers and held in segregated custodial accounts.
