Former Refco CEO faces 16 years behind bars
Fifty-nine-year-old Bennett was sentenced Thursday, July 3 in a Manhattan court by Southern District of New York Judge Naomi Buchwald. He starts his sentence on September 4.
On February 15 this year, Bennett pleaded guilty to 20 counts of securities fraud and related criminal charges in connection with his role in the collapse of Refco. Bennett, who owned 50% of the now-defunct company, was also one of 10 executives named as defendants in a class-action lawsuit by investors.
