Esma renews ban on most binary options

European regulator excludes certain types of binary options

Tough action: Esma first banned binary options from July 1, and is extending this from October 2, for most of these products

The European Securities and Markets Authority is to extend the ban on binary options for another three months from October 2, its board of supervisors decided on August 22.  

The ban on the marketing, distribution and sale of binary options to retail investors in the European Union took effect on July 2 on investor-protection grounds, as the regulator deems the characteristics of the product poses a significant risk to investors.
