Rajan becomes vice-chairman of BIS board

He will serve for a period of three years

Raghuram Rajan, governor of the Reserve Bank of India, has been elected by the board of directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) as its vice-chairman for a period of three years, starting on November 10.

Rajan, who joined the BIS board of directors in December 2013, replaces Masaaki Shirakawa, who stepped down as governor of the Bank of Japan and thus from the board.
