FX futures and options volumes soar on CME

Foreign exchange futures and options volumes on CME Group have soared in recent months, with a number of record days as a result of political developments in the US and the eurozone.

While FX volumes on the CME are down year-on-year, as they are on most trading venues, open positions on the exchange are increasing. On September 13, the day the US Federal Reserve announced a third round of quantitative easing, the CME recorded its busiest day since May 7, 2010, trading $221 billion. Open interest
