BIS: FX derivatives growth rate slows

bis

In statistics released today (November 15), the BIS said the 9% increase since the last survey in 2007 takes positions of OTC FX derivatives to $63 trillion, based on figures collected by central banks. However, this is a marked slowdown when compared to the 83% growth rate during the 2004–2007 period.

Data from the semi-annual survey showed that, in the first half of 2010, positions of all types of OTC derivatives fell by 4% to $583 trillion, following a 2% increase in the second half of 2009.
