South Africa looks to currency futures

The wholly owned subsidiary of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange will initially enable trading in rand/dollar futures, with other currency pairs to follow. Standard Bank and Investec will act as market makers.

Candice Quinn, YieldX derivatives product specialist in Johannesburg told FX Week the exchange can already support trading in rand/euro and rand/sterling. "These are assumed to trade next," she said, adding that more contracts will follow depending on demand.
