Trend strategies pay off in February

The bank's naive simulations of currency management styles showed trend-following strategies generated 3% returns, despite being down until the last week of the month.

The trend strategy benefited by being short the US dollar against most currencies - although it moved some of those positions to flat in the final couple of days as it perceived the dollar to be over-sold, said James Binny, executive director of foreign exchange analytics and risk advisory at ABN Amro in London.
