Steve Englander, chief FX strategist, Americas, at BarCap in New York, said it has long been the bank's view that the greenback was on track for a Q4 peak.

"We argued that the Homeland Investment Act [HIA] repatriation flows and steady Fed tightening would underpin the dollar, even when the market was not pricing in these factors," Englander told FX Week.

"We expect the dollar to remain firm against the euro for the remainder of Q4, as HIA flows are likely to be significant over the next month
