Swissie likely to return to strength

Given the underlying demand for yield and only a limited demand for safe-haven assets, the Swiss franc should stay soft. Also, anecdotal evidence suggests that Swiss investors are buying foreign assets. Euro/Swiss franc seems prepared to trade in a higher range for now, and we would not exclude a break higher still, one delaying the long-term trend for a strengthening Swiss franc.

Swiss economic news has been rather uninspiring. Recently, UBS downgraded its GDP forecasts for 2005 and 2006 to 1.2%
