Dollar strength despite deficit

Back in March, Tim Mazanec, senior FX strategist at the bank in Boston, said he expected less focus on the twin deficit that dominated talk after President Bush’s election victory late last year.

“By realising that it has become a non-story this year, we have been able to increase our confidence level in the dollar for the months ahead,” he told FX Week.

“The dollar is in a strengthening long-term trend mainly due to sustained US economic growth and disappointing growth in Europe and Japan,” he
