Japan's 120 forex brokers under investigation

Rapid growth in retail foreign exchange volumes in the past 12 months has heightened concerns over the adequacy of security measures protecting margin traders. Margin trading volumes in Japan hit ¥109 trillion ($896 billion) in the first quarter, smashing the symbolic ¥100 trillion mark for the first time (FX Week, May 28).

The FSA implemented a set of regulations in 2004, which included setting the liquidity asset ratio at 120%. The capital requirement for running a retail broking business
