Traders lured by hedge funds

One head of FX at a US investment bank in London warned that banks are increasingly finding that they have to offer ever higher pay packets in order to keep staff from moving to the buy side. "There seem to be fewer and fewer top-quality traders available at the moment and this can only be bad news for banks," he said.

Traders are being attracted to hedge funds by the lure of greater financial rewards, independence and recognition.

An options trader who joined a hedge fund from the sell side said
