The theme that continues to dominate currency forecasting this year, as it did last, is the prevailing consensus towards dollar weakness, said Laidi. With a large proportion of the long-term consensus view being dollar bearish, he said what is now more interesting is the view on the dollar's rebound.
"The key becomes nailing those corrective moves in the dollar, rather than solely getting the general trend right," said Laidi. "That's what we are trying to get."
