CME Launches Range Of New Currency Futures And Options

CHICAGO--The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) has introduced a range of new currency futures and options contracts in preparation for the arrival of the euro in January 1999, say officials.

The exchange's board of directors approved the launch of its European Currency Unit (Ecu) futures and options contracts, which will convert to the euro when European Monetary Union (EMU) takes place. According to CME officials, the contracts are sized at ECU125,000 to $138,500 and will be physically delivered
