Officials defuse row over Thai baht

BANGKOK -- Thailand’s finance minister, Somkid Jaturipitak, moved to dispel fears of a rift between the government and the Thai central bank over the value of the baht last week.
Prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra last month told reporters that the currency would strengthen over 40 baht to the dollar, sending the currency to a two-year high of 40.20. Central bank chief, Pridiyathorn Devakula, countered that the prime minister should not be commenting on central bank business.
