Sumitomo Hires New Spot FX Head In London

LONDON--Sumitomo Bank has hired Phil Rands as chief spot foreign exchange dealer in a bid to increase the bank’s FX business in London, says Hideo Hiyama, joint general manager of treasury at the bank in London.
The Japanese bank is looking to boost business on the euro/yen desk, building on the bank’s strong reputation in Tokyo as a corporate and interbank market player in dollar/yen, says Hiyama.
Rands will head a team of six traders, focusing on both yen pairs.
