Although the FX markets as we know them have been in existence for around half a century following globalisation and closer cross-border integration, the origins of foreign exchange can be traced back to Ancient Greece and the Middle East. Money changers were a familiar fixture in market places and harbours of the time. In addition to exchanging money, the changers also acted as bullion dealers serving international trade.
