Garban/Icap Merger Talks

After several months of speculation, Garban last week confirmed that it is in merger talks with Intercapital, although a spokesperson says the talks are at an early stage and no timeframe has been announced. The recent rash of consolidation in the broking industry highlights the strategic aim of the top firms to offer a one-stop service to clients in a bid to rescue marketshare from the electronic services.

The deal could potentially create one of the largest money broking
