Japan's foreign exchange reserves were up by $736 million in January 1998 from December 1997, when they stood at $221.53 billion, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF). FX reserves in the country rose for the fifth time in the past six months as the nation's global trade surplus continued to grow, government figures show. Japan's FX reserves fell by $7.5 billion in December from November 1997 after the Bank of Japan sold dollars to deflect foreign worries about Japan's increasing trade
