HKFE Maintains Scheduled Launch For Asian Currency FuturesContracts

EXCHANGES

The Hong Kong Futures Exchange (HKFE) says it is proceeding with plans to launch a half-dozen Asian currency futures contracts by the end of the year, despite the continuing turmoil in the regional currency markets, according to chairman Frank Wong Kong-shing.

Addressing market speculation that the exchange would delay the launch, Wong says the HKFE has "no intention" of doing so, stressing that the recent volatility has in fact highlighted the need for such hedging tools as currency futures.
