BankBoston has hired Chase Manhattan's Pedro Piedra to head a newly created Latin American currency-oriented trading, sales and research unit in Boston, says an official. The move is part of the bank's strategy to build upon its "strength in Latin America" and continue its focus on the region, the official adds.

Under Piedra, the desk will initially comprise six people: vice president and senior sales dealer Piedra, trader Joan Johnson, salesperson David Morris and researcher Kimberly Jacobsen
