ABN Amro Bucks Trend To Scale Down Futures, Buying Citi's Exchange-Based Execution Arm

ABN Amro Bank is bucking a recent trend among US institutions to either scale back or sell their futures divisions. With its purchase last week of Citibank's futures trading arm, the Dutch bank shows that a strong exchange presence is relevant to its core business.

With the closure of the deal on March 31, which was administered through the bank's US subsidiary, ABN Amro Chicago Corporation, ABN is now the owner of Citi's global futures trading operation. Citi's futures operation has a presence
