The success of the ERM in stabilizing movements of the European currencies has had some odd effects: it has reduced the importance of some formerly key currencies that have joined it, such as sterling, and given respectability to some that were once considered essentially exotics, such as the peseta. But one unexpected consequence that traders have noticed in recent months has been the decline of a liquid Swiss franc market, particularly the dollar/Swiss pair.
