Hungary Plans End To Crawling Peg

Hungarian finance minister Zsigmond Jarai said at the end of December that he hoped the government could lift the forint's crawling peg devaluation system and peg the currency to the euro in 2001.

In line with this plan he said that guidelines for the draft budget in 2001 would include an inflation target of 4 to 5 per cent in 2001 (compared with 6 to 7 per cent in 2000).
