New BIS Capital Proposals Favor Bilateral Netting, Hit Market Risk

The Bank for International Settlement's Basle Committee on Banking Supervision unveiled a series of proposals on April 30 that will have far-reaching implications for bank trading rooms. In an announcement from Basle, committee chairman Gerald Corrigan asked banks to comment by the end of the year on the proposals, which will may both reduce and increase their capital adequacy requirements.
