Taiwan allows yuan trading

Taiwan's premier, Frank Hsieh, announced last week that people on two islands, Kinmen and Matsu, will be able to swap the yuan and Taiwan dollar at domestic banks from today (October 3). The banks where the currencies can be bought and sold include the Bank of Taiwan, Fuhwa Bank, the Kinmen Credit Cooperative and the Land Bank of Taiwan. Chinese visitors to the islands and Taiwanese residents will be able to trade up to 20,000 yuan ($2,500) in any one transaction.
