Lebanese central bank to keep currency stable

Central bank governor, Riad Salame, reportedly said in a statement that the central bank would support the Lebanese pound amid concern the news would spook investors out of holding the currency in favour of the US dollar and euro.

A trader in Beirut said that he did not expect to see a big hit to the currency market, which re-opens to Lebanese pound trading today (Monday, February 21). The currency was at 1,514 against the dollar on Friday.
