International banks look to China for expansion

A senior manager in global markets at Standard Chartered in Hong Kong said the bank is looking to build resources in anticipation of liberalisation. "We are still optimistic about the progress on China's FX front and the feeling seems to be shared by foreign banks across the region."

However, he cautioned that the pace of change is unpredictable. "It's not just about planning, but also what the government regulations will allow."

This interest has led to increased recruitment activity among banks
