Blankfein becomes GS president

Forex veteran Lloyd Blankfein takes over as president and chief operating officer at Goldman Sachs in New York this week, succeeding John Thain, who becomes CEO of the New York Stock Exchange.

Blankfein has been in FX at Goldman since 1984. He became head of the J Aron currency and commodities business in 1994, where he was responsible for FX in New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong, and for currency options worldwide. He became co-head of Goldman’s fixed income, currency
