Sterling traders sidestep UK euro adoption issue

The UK government has committed to delivering its assessment on whether to recommend adoption of the single European currency by June 9, although any referendum on the subject and subsequent membership would come years later.

But although the euro’s inception in January 1999 saw a swathe of French franc, Italian lira, Spanish peseta and Dutch guilder dealers, among others, forced to look for other jobs, sterling traders are unlikely to find themselves in the same situation, market participants
