South Korea To Keep Speculative Trading Rules

SEOUL--Korea is to keep rules aiming to prevent speculative won trading in place, despite the planned liberalization of the country’s FX market, it emerged last week.

The second phase of Korea’s FX liberalization is due to begin on January 1, 2001, but speculative currency trading will continue to be outlawed. The first phase of liberalization was implemented last April with the introduction of the new Foreign Exchange Transaction Act.
