Swift, the bank owned financial messaging service, has announced that its overall network traffic grew 18 per cent last year to 812 million messages, up from 688 million in 1996. The increase is attributed to the high volatility in the FX markets and a 46 per cent growth in securities message traffic. The group says that by the end of the year, there were 6,176 institutions using the system, compared to 5,632 in 1996. Swift says that the first quarter of this year has also been strong. It
