Credit Lyonnais is planning to open a proprietary trading desk in New York on a trial basis, confirmed Jacques Mounier, senior vice president and treasurer, but he downplayed its importance. "We will do it on a trial-basis on a very small scale," he says, but "I don't think there is much noise to make out of it." He says that the bank is planning to "experiment for a few months" and then decide if it will keep the desk in place permanently. He declines to comment on exactly when the desk will
