Generale Bank Makes Global Push Opening New Hong Kong Branch

Generale Bank, Belgium's largest bank, is opening a branch in Hong Kong as part of its expansion drive in the Far East, officials say. The new branch will offer round-the-clock coverage together with the existing operations in Brussels and New York.

Currently, Generale's wholly-owned subsidiary Belgian Bank (Waipei Bank) has a treasury operation in Hong Kong, with roughly 15 traders. Generale's planned treasury business in Hong Kong will focus primarily on foreign exchange, but will also include
