CME launches lira currency futures

The launch comes a week after the Turkish central bank stepped in to the foreign exchange market to broker FX deals between banks, hoping to stop liquidity problems spilling into the market (FX Week, October 20).The lira has plummeted 43% against the dollar to reach 1.69 lira to the dollar on August 18. Analysts have attributed the drop to risk-averse investors abandoning emerging market exposures.

The CME lira contracts will be traded against the US dollar and euro, and will add to 17 other EM
