Activity set to soar in Romanian leu

Along with Bulgaria, Romania is due to sign an agreement with the EU to join in January 2007 this week.

The Romanian unit is set to see levels of trade approaching what former accession countries Poland and Hungary are experiencing now, according to Graham Stock, emerging markets FX strategist at JP Morgan in London. He pointed to the fact that the country opened deposit accounts at banks to foreign investors for the first time on April 11.
