Citi holds firm with negative US outlook

"This is for two reasons. In terms of underlying [US] economics, there is a lot of weakness to come. The boost from the fiscal side is not going to prove durable. It will also depend on how other economies perform," said Lewis Alexander, the bank's New York-based chief economist.

Alexander said that, while recent US monetary policy changes - such as interest rate cuts and the extension of lending facilities to banks - have shown beneficial effects for financial markets, financial conditions
