In a recently completed research project by Goldman Sachs, which used FX Week for its study of expansion versus contraction trends, the number of banks expanding forex operations far outweighed those contracting in 1994.

So far this year, expansion news is again outnumbering reports about downsizing; however, market participants talk of a shake-out occurring in the FX markets that will lead to the big players getting bigger and the small players getting smaller.
