Rather than cause banks to shy away from volatile emerging markets currencies, many market sources say the recent crisis in the Asia-Pacific region has succeeded in spotlighting these currencies. However, sources throughout the region indicate that a number of banks experienced serious setbacks, and that a "period of calm" and consolidation could ensue.

Many banks set up trading rooms, primarily in Singapore, in recent years, because they found the attractive yield curve plays in the region too
