Rand commission verdict expected soon

JOHANNESBURG -- The South African government will deliver a verdict during the next two weeks on the rand’s 37% fall in value last year.

The verdict will take into account a report submitted this month from a commission set up to investigate whether the currency’s slide was due to illegal collusion.

It will also consider a ‘minority report’ submitted by one of the three commissioners -- columnist and lawyer Christine Qunta -- who rejected the commission’s currently undisclosed findings.
