US Banks Anticipate Healthy Q4 Returns To Cap Year Of Across-The-Board Strength

As US banks begin releasing year-end and fourth quarter results this week, analysts maintain that 1997 was a good year for foreign exchange trading. Although year-end is usually seen as a quiet period, when dealers defend end of year profits and square positions, last year may have proved an exception as ongoing volatility in Asian markets provided ample opportunities.

"In terms of volatility and trends, 1997 should have been a bumper year," says David Gilmore, a partner at Foreign Exchange
