Flat Third Quarter Results For Swiss Banks; Bank Julius Baer Reports Good First Half

After generally good first-half forex trading results, Union Bank of Switzerland and Swiss Volksbank had a less-brilliant third quarter, ending with rather flat gains for the first nine months of the year, according to executives at the two banks, which did not offer specific forex figures.

Bank Julius Baer, which does not publish a quarterly review, recently released first-half figures showing a 15 percent rise in foreign exchange and precious metals trading income, from Sfr34.8 million in 1990
